First Acupuncture Visit

Preparing for your visit:

  • At least 24 hours before your visit, please complete the online new patient forms that were emailed to you. If you are unable to complete the online forms, contact us for paper copies.
  • Please wear comfortable clothes that can easily be adjusted to allow access to your arms, legs, back, etc.
  • Make sure you have eaten and consumed water at least 2 hours prior to your visit.
  • Please arrive 10 minutes before your visit to get checked in and make sure that all of the appropriate paperwork has been completed.

What to expect:

  • At your initial visit we will spend about 25 minutes discussing your health history, completing physical exams including tongue and pulse diagnosis, and getting to know each other. The remaining time will be spent on treatment.
  • Once we have completed our initial consultation, the acupuncturist will step out of the room to allow you to change your clothes and get comfortable on the exam table. Once you are ready and draped under a blanket they will re-enter the room and begin the treatment.
  • Acupuncture needles are very small, single use, precision cut needles. We will provide a brief demo if you have never received acupuncture and explain the procedure of inserting the needles.
  • Occasionally you may feel a slight twinge (nothing like receiving an injection), however most of the needles are painless.
  • Usually between 5-15 needles are used in one session. Once they are placed, you will be left to enjoy some quiet relaxation while the needles work for the rest of the visit. This usually takes 15-20 minutes.
